about

In 1768, Cook’s first great Pacific voyage set sail from Plymouth, England with 94 people aboard—officers, seamen and Joseph Bank’s scientific entourage. After arriving in Otaheiti (Tahiti) to observe and measure the astronomical phenomenon of the Transit of Venus, Banks is ashore collecting a variety of exotic plants. This song is sung by Banks when he pauses at the top of a hill to admire an exquisite view of the tropical island.

lyrics

OTAHEITI
(Music: Tim Hunter; Lyrics: Frederick McKinnon)

HIGH
HIGH ON A HILL
OTAHEITI LIES BEFORE ME
IN NATURE’S EXOTIC GLORY
A SOUTH SEA PARADISE

HEAVEN
HEAVEN ON EARTH
MAN IN UNSPOILED SPLENDOR
WILD PASSIONS YET EMOTIONS TENDER
A LAND KNOWN TO ENTICE

OTAHEITI – OTAHEITI
OTAHEITI, I’LL NEVER SEE ANOTHER ISLE
MORE BEAUTIFUL THAN YOU

OTAHEITI – OTAHEITI
OTAHEITI, I’LL NEVER SEE ANOTHER ISLE
MORE BEAUTIFUL THAN YOU

SIGHTS
SIGHTS TO BEHOLD
WATER FROM ARIEL FOUNTAINS
CASCADING DOWN GREEN MOUNTAINS
A SOUTH SEAS PARADISE

LADIES
LADIES OF LOVE
SENSUOUS HIPS SWAYING
THEIR INVITING LIPS SAYING
IT’S YOU THAT I DESIRE

OTAHEITI – OTAHEITI
OTAHEITI, I’LL NEVER SEE ANOTHER ISLE
MORE BEAUTIFUL THAN YOU

OTAHEITI – OTAHEITI
OTAHEITI, I’LL NEVER SEE ANOTHER ISLE
MORE BEAUTIFUL THAN YOU
